JANE HILTON - DEAD EAGLE TRAIL

PRIVATE VIEW: TODAY FROM 6.30pm
WED 21 APRIL - 15 MAY 2010

Host Gallery
1Honduras Street

The title of Jane Hilton's exhibition and book refers to her discovery of a dead Golden Eagle in the middle of the road in Nevada. The experience inspired her to document and explore one of the most iconic, romantic archetypes of American culture and history, the cowboy and his way of life.

Dead Eagle Trail marks Hilton’s empathetic portrayal of the cowboy of the twenty first century. Hilton’s subjects are photographed within their own personal environments, surrounded by their
collections of artifacts and memorabilia.

New publication celebrates fantastic women

I've been running around Soho trying to get a hold the new women's fashion magazine, THE GENTLEWOMAN but it's already sold out in most shops after being out for two days!

The team behind Fantastic Man, the ‘gentleman’s style journal’, is launching a spin-off title for women. The magazine celebrates functional fashion and the success of strong, ambitious women who 'are just fantastic’.

The magazine has a minimalist layout which mirrors its practical approach to photography and fashion. I just simply want to eat some of those pages.

POUND SHOP

The Poundshop is opening this weekend in London’s East End. The pop-up bargain store in Shoreditch, which takes its cues from the discount pound shops that have grown popular during the recession, has invited designers to submit products that will sell for no more than £1. Most of the deisgners are former oyal College of Art students, so there's sure to be some little gems on offer.

Poundshop has been organised by design collective Household and freelance illustrator Sara Melin, with the support of Shoreditch Trust. Products on sale will include sets of blue cutlery by the Used Development Organisation, ‘pearl’ rings with a tooth motif by product designer Naoki Kawamoto and stylish posters by graphic designer Claire McManus that remind you to water your plants.

Visitors to the shop are also invited to come up with their own ideas for services for the busker’s corner inside the shop. These could be a reading, a one-minute head massage or a music performance, again all costing just £1.

OPENING TIMES:
Friday 2nd -5th April
12:00 - 18:00
